Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.

Values are so important to us at Just R. It’s what we do. And one of our core values is to ‘Stay Curious’, we believe constant query and dialogue can open up positive possibilities and ideas to new directions and understanding. This, in turn, helps us to keep improving our offerings to our clients, to achieve better together and to grow both in our work and personal lives.

And a wonderful outcome of our curious nature has seen the start of a monthly book club emerge. Each month we focus on a different book (across an array of subjects) that help to make us better employees, better teammates, and ‘better humans’.

We only started two months ago and already the benefits have been multi faceted. Not only do we learn something new from the book itself, we also discover more about the people we work with, sharing insights and ideas that probably wouldn’t have seen the light of day.

We have become closer as a team, learned more about each other’s roles, personalities and backgrounds. We have all come to really enjoy our book club discussions as a time to be open and honest with each other on how we perceive what’s happening within the company, what we could do differently and what is working well and more importantly what we need to stop.

The benefits of our book club

1. It gives a voice to everyone in the team, in a safe and open environment, meaning ideas and thoughts are shared giving momentum to more open conversation outside of the book club. Those quieter team members have more confidence to speak up and give valuable insight.

2. The books, although focused on business, have translated not only into the work we all do but also our personal lives.

3. Each month we focus on a different book. Not only do we take away valuable insights from the book itself, but we have learned more about what each member of our team values, how they think and also more about them as individuals.

4. We have a close team already, but with each book club discussion, we discover more of what we have in common, and what we each bring to the table.

5. Curiosity is one of the core values within Just R. Transformational learning is key to growing as a company but also as people. Through these discussions and insights from the books we can see what we need to stop doing, keep doing and what we can do to improve in the future.

Book club has been pivotal in deepening our culture of achieving better together. We are stronger as a team and sharing our insights and knowledge with our clients helps us to deliver the support they need now and in the future.
