How Just R Helped GOSH Overcome Recruitment Challenges to Launch the New Koala Ward

"Every so often there is a client meeting that really stands out, that you know you will always remember and recently I had one of those moments!"
Initial conversations with GOSH
Last October we began speaking to Alison and the team at GOSH. We discussed the difficulties they were experiencing in recruiting for hard to fill nursing roles within the Brain Directorate.
Identifying challenges together
Through several meetings, we clarified the challenges and identified the necessary team members needed to fill the gaps.
The unique requirement
One of my team members summarised it well: “They need mini brain surgeon-style nurses,” highlighting the scope of the task ahead.

Tough challenges
The situation posed a tough challenge. Alison and her team had tried to fill their workforce vacancies for the past 12 months without success, but the real challenge was even greater. Alison not only wanted to fill her vacancies; she also aimed to over-establish to open a brand new ward.
The Koala Ward was completed before 2020, but setbacks, including the pandemic, prevented it from becoming fully operational. Alison aimed to hire qualified, experienced nurses to get the ward open and operational.
I founded Just R in 2016 to support clinical leads like Alison in building the teams needed for excellent patient care, and this challenge aligned perfectly with our expertise. Despite the difficulty, we eagerly embraced the opportunity to help.
Where are we now?
Our collaboration with GOSH began in March. Four months later, we discussed our progress during last Thursday’s call.
To date, the campaign we created and are delivering has enabled the GOSH team to hire five experienced nurses! Bringing this number of new, experienced members of staff into the Directorate has also given the team confidence to take on ten additional newly qualified nurses, which they couldn’t have done without the experienced staff joining as well.
The team also have a series of interviews lined up with more experienced staff eager to join, along with a constant stream of quality candidates entering their recruitment pipeline every week.
During last Thursday’s call, Alison updated us not only on the fantastic news about the new members of her team but also that, as a result of the work we have been doing together, she is finally in a position to open her new Koala Ward this September!
Running your own business can often be difficult, but moments like these remind you why you did it and who you did it for.
