Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) has teamed up with Cumbria-based NHS marketing specialists Just R to launch a video campaign attracting mental health professionals to join the Trust, featuring hit song by 90’s rock sensation, Inspiral Carpets.

Inspiral Carpets are synonymous with Greater Manchester. Having formed in Oldham in 1983, they played a huge role in the 90’s ‘Madchester Movement’. The featured song, Saturn 5, entered the British Top 20 and stayed there for six weeks; a song inspired by the Apollo space missions of the 1960s and early 1970s.

Clint Boon, Inspiral Carpets keyboardist and writer of Saturn 5 said, “I’m really pleased that the team at GMMH have decided to use Saturn 5 as the song for this important campaign. It’s a song about positivity, reaching for greater heights, and looking to a brighter future.

“It fits in perfectly with the spirit of GMMH and the things they intend to achieve.”

GMMH is committed to promoting professional opportunities at the Trust, with services including crisis care, addiction, child and adolescent mental health, inpatient and more, delivering critical mental health care to around 81,000 people across the Greater Manchester region. This campaign is specifically focused on attracting to the community mental health teams (CMHTs).

The ‘We Are GMMH’ videos featuring Saturn 5 stars GMMH interviewed by Just R about their roles, providing an insight into the breadth of opportunities available at one of the largest specialist mental health providers in the country.

In the midst of the largest workforce crisis the NHS has seen for many years (projecting a workforce shortfall of over 488,000 by 2030), the GMMH team partnered with Just R earlier this year to bring innovation to the way they attract staff.

Juliette Tait, Acting Director of HR at GMMH, said “We are transforming our community mental health services to deliver care closer to home and avoid inpatient admissions. We’re looking for caring, passionate people to help us do that and are thrilled to launch this recruitment campaign showcasing our staff and the important work they do.

“Using a song by Manchester-grown Inspiral Carpets is a perfect collaboration for this campaign, so we can’t wait for people to see it and consider a career with us.”

Just R work with NHS Trusts across the UK to utilise brand, marketing and advertising to support clinical teams with their attraction and recruitment strategies.

Rachael Bagshaw, Just R Founder and CEO, said: “The Inspiral Carpets are so quintessentially Manchester, and Saturn 5 is such an uplifting and positive song it fits perfectly with the essence of GMMH as a provider of mental health services across Greater Manchester and their transformation programme.

Having worked with Clint Boon in Manchester for many years, I knew we had to get him involved when we signed the contract with GMMH this year”.
